Ohio State notches win in B1G opener
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Max Montes scored twice and Logan Terness made 37 saves, leading the Ohio State men's hockey team to a 2-1 overtime win at No. 16/15 Wisconsin Friday in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Wisconsin's only goal came on the power play early in the first period. Montes, a Wisconsin native, tied the game on a goal with 12 seconds left in the stanza. Neither team scored again until Montes' second of the night with just 17 seconds left in overtime. Terness stopped the final 37 shots he faced and the Buckeye defense blocked 24 shots.

Montes has tallied in each of the first three games this season, with four on the year. It was his third career two-goal game, with the others Feb. 2 vs. Michigan and March 8 at Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament.

The Buckeyes, now 2-0-1 on the year, and Badgers (1-2-0) will close the weekend series at 7 p.m. ET Saturday in Madison. The game will be streamed through B1G+ and carried on Ohio State Radio.

How it Happened
- An early Buckeye major penalty led to the first goal of the game, as Wisconsin's Ryland Mosley tallied at 3:35.
- Ohio State had six of the last eight shots on goal in the stanza and tied the game with a late tally.
- On the rush, Patrick Guzzo dropped a pass to Max Montes in the faceoff circle and he scored shortside. Joe Dunlap had the second assist on the tally.
- The period ended with the Buckeyes ahead, 9-5, in shots.
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net through the end of regulation, with Buckeye goalie Logan Terness stopping 30 shots. The Badgers outshot the Buckeyes 17-9 in the second period and 13-3 in the third. Terness added three more saves in overtime.
- Montes gave the Buckeyes the win with just 17 seconds left in the five-minute 3x3 overtime period.
- On the winner, Theo Wallberg led Riley Thompson up the ice. The Badgers knocked the puck away from Thompson, but Montes got to it in front. With the goalie out of position, he was able to backhand it in.
- For the game, the Buckeyes were outshot 38-23. Terness had 37 saves in 64:43. UW goalie Tommy Scarfone made 21 stops in 64:43.
- The Buckeyes blocked 24 Badger shot attempts. Damien Carfagna recorded a Buckeye-best five, Wallberg had four and Aiden Hansen-Bukata blocked three.
- There were just two penalties called in the game – the first-period major on the Buckeyes and an interference call on the Badgers in the third period. Wisconsin ended the game 1-for-2 on the power play, with Ohio State 0-for-1.
