Ohio State Finishes the Weekend 2-0 with Shutout win over Kent State

The Buckeyes notch their 11th win of the season
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1) finished a two-win weekend with a shutout of in-state foe Kent State (3-10) by a 3-0 final on Sunday. The scarlet and gray defense held Kent State to only one shot on the day while three different Buckeyes saw goal-scoring action.
How it Happened
The fast Ohio State offense got off to yet another quick start, driving down the field to take a 1-0 lead at the 6:32 minute mark. The Buckeyes took their momentum into the second quarter, scoring in the 19th minute to lift the score to 2-0 before halftime.
The third quarter went scoreless, with Ohio State notching the only four shots of the game. Eight minutes into the fourth quarter, the Buckeyes found the open goal again off a deflection to set the score at 3-0. The Buckeyes had eight shots in the fourth quarter alone with five of them on-goal.
How The Goals Were Scored
- Forward Olivia Wallace put the Buckeyes on the board in the sixth minute after driving down the field and dancing through the Kent State defense. The junior totals two goals on the season, with the first coming in Friday's shutout win against Penn State.
- Senior Hallie Brost scored her fifth goal of the season at the 19:20 minute mark after another Buckeye charge. Brost has now scored in three of Ohio State's last five games.
- Freshman Sienna Golden scored at the 53:08 minute mark, finding the wide-open goal after a defensive save by Kent State. Golden, a forward, now totals two goals on the season along with one assist.
Buckeye This and That
- Six of Ohio State's wins this season have been shutouts—topping last season's total of five shutouts in 14 wins. The Buckeye offense has combined for 23 goals in this year's shutout wins.
- The Buckeyes held the Golden Flashes to one shot on the day—the fewest they've allowed since last year's 7-0 win against Bellarmine where they only allowed one. Ohio State holds a 196-92 shot advantage over their opponents on the year.
- Ohio State is now 11-1 on the season—only three games behind 2023's season total. The Buckeyes still have six matches scheduled for the regular season.
- Today's match was the first time this season that Ohio State didn't allow their opponent a single penalty corner. The Buckeyes have out-cornered their opponents 90-46 on the year.
- With her fifth goal of the season in today's match, Brost moves into double-figures for points in 2024. She's joined by four other Buckeyes: Makenna Webster (33), Katie Fichtner (12), Brenna Bough (12) and Lindsey Roberts (10)
