COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a four-goal second period, the Ohio State men's hockey team skated to a 6-2 victory over Bowling Green Friday in Value City Arena. The Falcons led 1-0 after the first period before Ohio State scored four times in the middle stanza, including twice in the final 31 seconds, to take control. Bowling Green scored the first goal of the third but two Ohio State power play goals closed out the victory.

Buckeye sophomore Stephen Halliday had a team-high four points with a career-high four assists, including the first assist on three straight tallies. Scooter Brickey scored twice, Dalton Messina and Cam Thiesing each had a goal and a helper for two points and Theo Wallberg picked up two assists. The Buckeyes scored three power play goals in the win, were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and scored shorthanded.

The Buckeyes (7-8-4) and Falcons (7-15-0) will close the nonconference series at 7:07 p.m. Saturday at Slater Family Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio. The game will be streamed through FloHockey.

The Short Story
The only goal of the first was scored at 16:44 by the Falcons and each team had 10 shots in the opening 20 minutes. Riley Hughes tied the game 1:02 into the second with his first goal as a Buckeye. Scooter Brickey tallied back-to-back to put the Buckeyes in the lead, at even strength at 15:11 and on a 5-on-3 power play at 19:29. With just .4 on the clock, Dalton Messina scored shorthanded for a 4-1 Ohio State advantage.

The Falcons ended the Buckeye goal run at 2:30 of the third for a 4-2 game. Cam Thiesing scored on a major power play at 14:03 for a three-goal cushion and Thomas Weis notched a power play goal of his own at 18:45 to wrap up the scoring.

How it Happened
- The first period ended with the Falcons ahead, 1-0, on Ben Wozney's goal at 16:44. Each team put 10 shots on goal in the opening stanza. Five of the Buckeyes' shots came with the man advantage, as OSU was 0-for-2 and BG was 0-for-1.
- Just 1:02 into the second period Stephen Halliday found Riley Hughes at the far post for his first goal as a Buckeye. Davis Burnside had the second assist on the goal which tied the game at one.
- The trio of Scooter Brickey, Halliday and Theo Wallberg combined for back-to-back goals, with matching scoring lines.
- A 5-on-3 goal at 15:11 broke the tie and Brickey put Ohio State up by two at 19:29.
- With time winding down in the period and the Buckeyes shorthanded, Cam Thiesing broke in on the goalie on a breakaway. The goalie made the initial save but Dalton Messina was there to put in the rebound.
- Ohio State led 4-1 through 40 minutes and had the shot advantage in the second, 16-6. The Buckeyes had the only three power play chances in the middle period.
- BG's Quinn Emerson scored at 2:30 of the third for a two-goal game.
- On a major power play, Thiesing finished off a quick passing sequence from Patrick Guzzo and Halliday at 14:03 to put the Buckeyes back ahead by three.
- Thomas Weis scored his first career power play goal at 18:45, set up by Messina and Nathan McBrayer.
- Ohio State had the shot advantage in the third, 15-9, and was 2-for-3 with the man advantage in the stanza (with 10 shots on goal), with Bowling Green 0-for-1. Â
- For the game, the Buckeyes outshot the Falcons, 41-25. Kristoffer Eberly made 23 stops in 59:54 for Ohio State. Ohio State blocked 11 Falcon shot attempts, with McBrayer posting a team-high two. BG had 16 shot blocks in the game.

Buckeye This and That
- Halliday has a team-best 13 assists and 18 points. It was his third career four-point game and his first game with four assists after five three-assist outings. The last Buckeye with four assists was Jake Wise in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last March. Â
- Thiesing has a goal in four straight games and in six of the last eight outings. He is second on the team with six goals.
- Messina had his first career two-point outing. He has a team-high two shorthanded goals this season.
- Brickey notched his second career two-goal game and his second this season (Nov. 4 vs. Michigan State). He now has seven two-point games in the Scarlet and Gray and leads this year's Buckeyes with seven goals.
- Wallberg had his second game with multiple assists after three in the season opener at Mercyhurst. He is second on the squad with 11 helpers this year.
- Hughes is the 18th Buckeye to score a goal this year.
- Burnside, who has already set a career best in assists, has a helper in six of the last eight games and is third on the team with 10 total.
- Ohio State has four-plus goals in three of the last four games.
