Buckeyes in 8th After Round 1 of Southwestern Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The spring portion of the season is officially underway, and Ohio State posted a 1-over 285 in the first round of the Southwestern Invitational at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
That has the Buckeyes in a tie for 8th at 1-over par. The team standings are fairly across the 13 teams as first place and last place is separated by just 14 shots.
Senior Neal Shipley made three consecutive bogeys on holes 9-10-11 but counted that with five birdies to post a 2-under 69. That is his fifth round in the 60s this year and the 25th of his career. He is tied for 10th headed into the second round.
Freshman Jack Vojtko made his collegiate debut on Monday and made three birdies in his first seven holes. He would make a total of four birdies on the day in a round of even-par 71.
Maxwell Moldovan and Jackson Chandler, who is playing as an individual, both carded round of 1-over 72. Patrick Schmucking was a shot back with a 73 and Adam Wallin posted a 74.
The Buckeyes will be in the first wave off the back nine on Tuesday, starting at 11:22 a.m. ET.
