Buckeyes Set for Matchup with Nittany Lions

The Basics

- The Ohio State men's hockey team is set for two games at Penn State this weekend.Â
- The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa.
- Big Ten Plus will stream both contests and Ohio State Radio will carry the action on 1460 AM and the Ohio State Buckeyes app. Live statistics can be linked from OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Ohio State is 9-11-4 on the year (1-11-2 0-0-2 B1G) and Penn State is 10-11-3 this season (2-9-3 0-0-2 B1G). The Buckeyes dropped two games at Minnesota last weekend and Penn State fell twice at Notre Dame.
- This is the first series between the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions this season. The squads will meet in Columbus March 1-2 to wrap up the regular season.
- Ohio State and Penn State last met in a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal series in Columbus in March 2023, a series won by the Buckeyes, 2-1.
- Brothers Joe and Jake Dunlap both scored in game two at Minnesota, the first time the tandem scored in the same game. Joe assisted on Jake's goal in the game, the first time the duo combined for a tally at Ohio State.
- Seven Buckeyes - Stephen Halliday (24), Davis Burnside (17), Scooter Brickey (17), Theo Wallberg (15), Cam Thiesing (13), Patrick Guzzo (10) and Dalton Messina (10) - have hit double-digit points.
- This season, 22 of 23 Buckeye skaters have gotten on the scoresheet, including 19 goal scorers.Â
- Ohio State is closing a stretch of four straight road games and will then play its next four in Columbus, starting vs. Michigan Feb. 2-3.Â
- The Buckeyes wrapped up nonconference play undefeated with an 8-0-2 mark.Â
- Defenseman Scooter Brickey, who leads Ohio State with nine goals this year, is also first on the squad with 40 shot blocks. He is tied for second with 17 points.
- Ohio State is 21-for-91 (.231) on the power play this season, ranking 17th nationally.
- In the seven games since returning from break, the Buckeyes have nine power play goals on 25 chances (.360). Ohio State was 2-for-4 vs. Minnesota last weekend. Â Â
- For the year, Scooter Brickey, Stephen Halliday and Patrick Guzzo share the team lead with four power play goals each, while Cam Thiesing, Theo Wallberg and Caden Brown each have two. Davis Burnside, Thomas Weis and Michael Gildon have also scored on the power play.Â
- Halliday and Wallberg each have seven power play assists to lead the squad.Â
- Halliday has a team-best 11 power play points, with Brickey second (10).
- In all, 14 Buckeyes have at least one point on the man advantage.Â
- Ohio State leads the all-time series with Penn State, 25-18-4, including a 10-6-2 mark in University Park, Pa.
- The squads met seven times last year, with the Buckeyes winning the series, 4-3. In the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals in Columbus March 3-5, Ohio State took game one 5-1 before a 2-1 overtime loss. The Buckeyes prevailed in the third game with three unanswered goals to advance.Â
- In the regular season, the squads split two series. In University Park Dec. 2-3, 2022, Penn State took game one, 2-1, before a 4-3 Ohio State victory. In Columbus Feb. 3-4, 2023 Penn State again won the opener, 4-3, before a 4-2 Buckeye win for a split. Â
- Among current Buckeyes, Stephen Halliday leads with nine assists and 10 points vs. the Nittany Lions (in seven games). Joe Dunlap is first with five goals, adding an assist for six points (15 gp), and Cam Thiesing has a 2-4-6 line (14 gp).Â
- Ohio State will be back in Columbus to host No. 14 Michigan Feb. 2 (7 p.m.) and Feb. 3 (8 p.m.) in Value City Arena. Â
- An open week follows before the Buckeyes welcome No. 3 Wisconsin Feb. 16 (6:30 p.m.) and Feb. 17 (4:30 p.m.).Â
- In the series vs. both the Wolverines and the Badgers, game one will be streamed through Big Ten Plus, with game two on BTN.
