Buckeyes Post Two More Sweeps of NKU and Toledo

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State swept another doubleheader on Wednesday to improve to 4-0 on the young season. The Buckeyes defeated Northern Kentucky 4-0 in the morning match and then beat Toledo 7-0 in the evening match.
Earlier in the day, the Buckeyes earned the No. 1 ranking as the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings were announced. This is the seventh season in which the Buckeyes have ascended to No. 1.
Jack Anthrop and Cannon Kingsley both went 4-0 on the day. Anthrop dropped just three games in his four singles sets. Kingsley had the lone win over a ranked opponent, beating Toledo's No. 68 Pawit Sornlaksup in three sets.
Against NKU, the teams agreed to play all three doubles matches to completion and the Buckeyes rolled to wins in all three, dropping just three games in total. In singles, Ohio State got straight-set wins from Cannon Kingsley (6-0, 6-2), Jack Anthrop (6-1, 6-0) and JJ Tracy (6-2, 6-1) to claim the 4-0 victory. The Buckeyes were also up a set in the other three matches.
In the match with Toledo, the Buckeyes blitzed the doubles point with a 6-0 win on court two and a 6-1 win on court three. After five straight-set singles wins, Kingsley and Sornlaksup engaged in the match of the day. Kinglsey won the opening set 6-1 and the Sornlaksup took the second 7-5. In the super-breaker, Kingsley was able to outlast Sornlaksup 11-9 to stay undefeated on the year.
The Buckeyes will host the ITA Kickoff Weekend this upcoming Saturday and Sunday. They will take on Vanderbilt at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning and then Oregon will face Boise State at 1 p.m. The championship match is slated for noon on Sunday with the consolation set for 9 a.m. The winner of the weekend will qualify for the ITA Indoor Team National Championship on Feb. 16-19 in New York.
