Ohio State Hands Maryland First Home Loss of the Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 18/15 Ohio State Buckeyes (14-3, 5-1 B1G) beat -/RV Maryland (11-6, 3-3 B1G) on Wednesday night by an 84-76 margin.
Maryland got off to a quick start and got the last shot to take a 17-16 lead after 10 minutes. Back-and-forth play continued in the second quarter and Ohio State trailed 39-37 at halftime. The Buckeyes battled back to take a 56-55 lead into the fourth quarter. OSU won the fourth quarter, 28-21, to earn the Buckeyes first victory in College Park since 2016.
Rebeka Mikulášiková was the first Buckeye to reach double figures and finished with a season-high 20 points. All five starters had at least 10 points as Taylor Thierry (17), Cotie McMahon (14), Jacy Sheldon (10) and Celeste Taylor (11) also scored in double figures. McMahon and Thierry tied for a game-high nine rebounds apiece.
How it Happened
Ohio State opened scoring with a three-pointer from Rebeka Mikulášiková before Maryland scored the next seven points. The Buckeyes got within one at 8-7 with four minutes remaining before back-to-back Terrapins baskets forced an OSU timeout. Ohio State took the lead back at 16-15 on a 5-0 run by Celeste Taylor. Maryland had the final shot to lead 17-16 after 10 minutes.
Thierry scored first to take the lead back before the Terps scored back-to-back to regain their advantage. The Buckeyes tied the score at 26 and 28 but Maryland held the 32-28 lead at the media timeout with 4:17 to play before halftime. OSU tied the game again at 32 out of the timeout and trailed 39-37 going into the locker room.
Mikulášiková tied the game to begin the second half before a 5-0 Maryland run. The Buckeyes tied the game again at 46 with 6:20 remaining in the quarter to force a Terrapins timeout. Ohio State tied the game again at 50 and 52 before using a 6-0 run to take a 56-52 lead with 1:26 to play. The Buckeyes led 56-55 after 30 minutes.
The Buckeyes scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to increase their lead to 62-55. Back-to-back McMahon layups gave OSU a 66-57 advantage with 6:21 to play. Ohio State used a 6-0 run to increase its lead to 77-67 with just under two minutes left on the game clock. The Buckeyes wrapped up their scoring at the free throw line at 84-76.
