Road Stretch Opens with Series at No. 10 Minnesota

- The Ohio State men's hockey team is set for a two-game Big Ten series at No. 10 Minnesota this weekend. Â
- The teams will meet at 8 p.m. ET Friday and Saturday in 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis, Minn.Â
- Big Ten Plus will stream the series opener and game two will be televised by BTN and on the Fox Sports app. Ohio State Radio will carry both games on 1460 AM and the Ohio State Buckeyes app. Live statistics can be linked from OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Ohio State is 9-9-4 on the year (1-9-2 0-0-2 B1G) and split a series with Notre Dame in Columbus last weekend. Minnesota swept Robert Morris in a nonconference series at home last weekend and is 12-6-4 this year (5-4-3 1-0-0 B1G).Â
- Ohio State and Minnesota met in Columbus Dec. 8-9 to wrap up the first half of the schedule. The Gophers took game one 5-4 before a 1-1 OT tie and Ohio State shootout win.Â
- The Buckeyes had a season-high five-game unbeaten and four-game winning streak end with a loss to Notre Dame last Saturday.
- This season, 22 of 23 Buckeye skaters have gotten on the scoresheet, including 19 goal scorers.Â
- Six Buckeyes - Stephen Halliday (22), Davis Burnside (17), Scooter Brickey (17), Theo Wallberg (13), Cam Thiesing (13) and Dalton Messina (10) - have hit double-digit points.
- The series at Minnesota opens a stretch of back-to-back road series for Ohio State, who will play at Penn State Jan. 26-27. The squad is 3-5-2 away from Columbus.Â
- The Buckeyes wrapped up nonconference play undefeated with an 8-0-2 mark. The regular season ends with seven straight Big Ten series, with four at home.Â
- Ohio State is 19-for-87 (.218) on the power play this season, ranking 18th nationally.
- In the five games since returning from break, the Buckeyes have seven power play goals on 21 chances (.333). Â
- Scooter Brickey and Patrick Guzzo share the team lead with four power play goals each, while Stephen Halliday has three and Cam Thiesing and Caden Brown each have two. Davis Burnside, Theo Wallberg, Thomas Weis and Michael Gildon have also scored on the power play.Â
- Brickey, Halliday and Wallberg each have six power play assists.Â
- Brickey has a team-best 10 power play points, with Halliday second (9).
- In all, 14 Buckeyes have at least one point on the man advantage.Â
- The series between Ohio State and Minnesota dates to 1968 but 56 of the 62 games have been since 1999.
- In Minneapolis, the Gophers lead the all-time series 23-4-3 and Minnesota leads in Big Ten regular season games, 29-11-6. In the overall series, the Gophers are ahead, 45-11-6.
- The teams met in Columbus Dec. 8-9 to close out the first half. A Buckeye comeback fell short in game one with a 5-4 loss and in game two the teams skated to a 1-1 overtime tie before Ohio State won the shootout.Â
- The last games in Minneapolis were Feb. 24-25, 2023, when Minnesota swept the series with 4-0 and 5-2 wins.Â
- The Buckeyes head east to Penn State for a series Jan. 26-27. The Nittany Lions are the only Big Ten team Ohio State has not yet faced this season.Â
- The games at Penn State will be streamed through Big Ten Plus and on Ohio State Radio. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. for game one and 6 p.m. for game two in University Park, Pa.
