Basics on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State is one of just two unbeaten teams remaining in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes' 5-0 record represents its best start in 17 years – since beginning 8-0 in 2006.
- The Buckeyes are No. 18 in this week's NFHCA poll. They are one of seven teams from the Big Ten in the poll.
- Offensively, the charge has been led by forward Makenna Webster, who already has 17 points on the season (seven goals, three assists). She was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
- Webster is getting plenty of help from her teammates, including a pair of freshmen – Brenna Bough and Anne Marie Krebs. The duo is second and fourth on the team, respectively, in total points.
- Bough scored her first two collegiate goals in Monday's 5-0 win over UC Davis and Krebs has five points so far (one goal, three assists).
- The defense is keyed by goalie Abby Danson, who has stopped 20 shots through five games with a 1.02 goals-against average and .800 save percentage.
- Also contributing to that effort is fifth-year senior Delaney Lawler, who has played in 76 career games, and senior Sarah Richards, who will start her 29th career game on Friday.
Scouting Louisville
- Louisville is also unbeaten so far this season and currently sits at No. 4 in the latest NFHCA poll with a 4-0 record.
- The Cardinals own wins over Northeastern, Northwestern, Princeton and Penn so far this season.
- Tyler Everslage was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after she scored a goal in each of the Cardinals' wins over Princeton and Penn. She is currently tied for the team lead with four points.
- The Cardinals' defense has allowed just three goals in four games and they rank ninth nationally in goals-against average (0.75).
Scouting Stanford
- Stanford is 0-3 on the season but has already faced three ranked teams: Maryland, Rutgers and Penn State.
- The Cardinal dropped a 5-1 decision last Sunday to Penn State and also fell 4-0 and 2-0, respectively, to Maryland and Rutgers on the opening weekend of the season.
- Stanford has one Big Ten team left on its 2023 schedule: a game at Michigan State on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
Statistically Speaking
- The Buckeyes currently have top-10 national team rankings in scoring margin (fourth - +3.06), scoring offense (sixth – 4.08), goals per game – (sixth – 4.00) and penalty corners to per game (seventh – 10.02).
- Makenna Webster is eighth in goals per game (1.40) and seventh in points per game (3.40). Her seven goals so far this season are second only to Kirsten Oudshoorn of Delaware.
- Abby Danson's .800 save percentage is good for 13th-best nationally and fourth in the Big Ten.
