COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Sophia Louder headed-home the first goal of her career in the 63rd minute to knot the score at 1-1 and Ohio State would make that stand as the Buckeyes tied Michigan State 1-1 on Sunday afternoon in East Lansing.
The match was the Big Ten opener for each team. The Buckeyes are now 4-2-2, 0-0-1 on the year while Michigan State is 5-2-2, 0-0-1.
How it Happened
The Spartans got on the board first in the 15th minute as Bella Najera redirected a ball from inside the six-yard box. The 1-0 score would hold despite a number of chances for the Buckeyes in the opening half.
The up-and-down pace continued in the second half. The Buckeyes earned a corner in the 63rd minute and Kine Flotre's service into the box was on point. Louder was unmarked on the back side of the box and she perfectly placed a headed in the left side of the goal. That was the first goal of her career and it was a extra special as came on her birthday.
The Buckeyes were attacking all afternoon, forcing MSU's keeper to make nine saves, including seven in the second half. Molly Pritchard made another five stops in goal for the Buckeyes.
