COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State opens Big Ten play on Sunday afternoon against Michigan State in East Lansing. The match will start at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on B1G+.
- The Buckeyes are 16-12-0 all-time against Michigan State and have won five of the last seven meetings. The Buckeyes are 3-9-0 in East Lansing with their last win coming in the spring of 2021. Emma Sears scored five minutes into the match and that score held in a 1-0 victory.
- Last season, Michigan State won 1-0 in Columbus on Oct. 20, to clinch the Big Ten title.
- Ohio State is 10-13-6 in Big Ten openers and have won two out of their last four openers, defeating Michigan State in 2019 and winning at Maryland in 2021.
- Ohio State is unbeaten in its last four matches and has won three consecutive matches heading into conference play. The Buckeyes are 4-2-1 on the season and has scored 12 goals in their last three matches.
- The Buckeyes capped non-conference play with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Auburn last Sunday. Emma Sears scored her first goal of the season in the 16th minute and freshman Amanda Schlueter added the second goal just six minutes later. Sophomore keeper Molly Pritchard made five saves in recorded her second career shutout.
- Michigan State comes into the contest at 5-2-1 overall. The Spartans played Dayton to a 2-2 draw last Sunday in East Lansing. MSU is in the Top 10 in the country in shots per game and has scored 22 goals on the season.
- Junior forward Kailyn Dudukovich has had a great start to the season. She got off to the best start to a season of any Buckeye in program history, scoring seven goals through the first six games. Her seven goals are third-most in the conference and she has recorded a point in five of the seven matches this season.
- Head coach Lori Walker-Hock enters Sunday's match seeking the 300th win of her career. She is in her 27th season with the Buckeyes and her 29th overall as a head coach. She is looking to become the 33rd active coach with 300 career victories. 286 of her 299 wins have come as a Buckeye.
- OSU freshman goalkeeper Peighton Northrup and Spartan freshman midfielder Sophia Piotrowski were both part of the Michigan Hawks Soccer Club and reached the 2019 and 2021 ECNL Quarterfinals.
