Buckeyes Keep Climbing at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a sensational 7-under 64 from graduate Neal Shipley, Ohio State carded a 17-under 267 on Saturday to climb into fifth place through two rounds of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
Shipley bogeyed his fourth hole of the day but then played the final 13 holes in 8-under par, which included an eagle on the par-5 17th to jumpstart his run. He opened with a career-low 66 on Friday and bettered that mark by two on Saturday. His 36-hole total of 130 (-12), has him in a tie for third and it's also the lowest 36-hole score in program history.
Maxwell Moldovan and Adam Wallin each carded rounds of 4-under 67 on Saturday. Moldovan followed his opening round 65, which included eight birdies, with five birdies in a round of 67. Wallin made an eagle-2 at the par-4 fifth as he played his final 12 holes in 5-under par.
Freshman Tyler Sabo posted the fourth sub-70 round as he made four birdies in his round of 2-under 69. The Ashland, Ohio native is making his collegiate debut this week. Senior Patrick Schmucking rounded-out the Buckeye scoring five with a round of 73.
In the individual tournament, which was played at the Legend Trail Golf Club, Jacob Tarkany carded under-par rounds of 71-69 over the final two rounds to finish at 3-under par and tied for 19th. Tyler Groomes shook off a tough first round and came back with rounds of 72-73 to finish at 7-over par. Drew Mulcahy finished-up with rounds of 74-77 and finished at 10-over.
The Buckeyes' round of 267 is the third-lowest 18-hole score in program history. They are in fifth place and will start the final round at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
