COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team kicked off the 2023 home slate with a 4-1 win over New Hampshire Friday evening at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes improve to 3-0 on the year with a victory in their first game of the Buckeye Invitational.

The Short Story
Ohio State found itself facing a 1-0 deficit at the end of the first quarter. New Hampshire scored the lone goal of the quarter at 8:11, but the Buckeyes did not allow the Wildcats to strengthen their lead. Ohio State responded with four unanswered goals over the next 45 minutes to secure the home-opener victory.

Graduate student Julie Rodijk recorded the equalizer for the Buckeyes, scoring the team's first goal of the game at 1:36 into the second quarter. Senior Makenna Webster followed with another goal for Ohio State 12 minutes later to give the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead at the half.

Rodijk and Webster went on to score a goal a piece in the second half, with Rodjik finding the back of the cage 3:59 into the third quarter and Webster recording the final goal of the game at 2:13 into the fourth quarter.

How The Goals Were Scored
- New Hampshire's Lindsay Lee recorded the Wildcats' first and only goal of the game, collecting a rebounded penalty corner shot and finding the back of cage at 8:11.
- Julie Rodijk put Ohio State on the board to tie the game at 1-1, scoring on a penalty corner that was assisted by Delaney Lawler and Makenna Webster.
- Webster's game-winning goal came with 1:20 to play in the first half. After a shot by Hallie Brost was saved by New Hampshire's Jemma Woods, Brenna Bough knocked the ball back to Webster who then tapped it behind Woods.
- Rodijk added her second goal of the game with just over 11 minutes to play in the third quarter. She capitalized on a Buckeye penalty corner, this time assisted by Anne Marie Krebs.
- Webster's final tally came with under 13:00 to play. Webster received the ball in the middle of the circle, drawing Woods out of the goal and finishing lower left.
Buckeye This and That
- Rodijk's two goals against New Hampshire were her first in the Scarlet and Gray uniform. Friday marked the third time in her career that she has tallied two goals in a game. Â
- With the win, Ohio State starts the season 3-0 for the second consecutive year. The Buckeyes have now won three straight home openers.
- Webster's team-high three points against New Hampshire brings her to a team-high 10 points this season.
- Goalie Abby Danson faced five shots and made four saves on the day to remain undefeated this season.
