COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's soccer head coach Lori Walker-Hock has announced the promotion of Gavin MacLeod to associate head coach. MacLeod has been with the program since the start of the 2021 spring season.
"Gavin brings a wealth of experience to our program and is certainly deserving of this promotion," Walker-Hock said. "His approach is very different than mine and so it's a wonderful complement to how I see the game. He has a keen eye for detail and his intensity to get those little details right on the field is always spot on. But it's the energy he brings on and off the field that's really contagious from a recruiting perspective. He's great at building relationships and represents Ohio State well. He and Brian Jankowski complement each other so well in that aspect, and they have been great at building and leading our young team."
MacLeod is also the program's recruiting coordinator. Since joining Ohio State in January of 2021, he has helped lead the Buckeyes to over 30 wins and three-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. He's also played a role in the development of All-Big Ten players Izzy Rodriguez, Talani Barnett, Kayla Fischer, Emma Sears, Peyton McNamara, Kailyn Dudukovich and Kine Flotre.
"I am very appreciative of the promotion," MacLeod said. "Anytime that you're trying to give your best at any position, it's always great when people feel you should be rewarded for that effort. I am appreciative of that and thankful to be in the position that I am in. Ohio State is a phenomenal place and I've enjoyed every day since my first day of work. Lori has provided me everything that I need to be successful and then ultimately, together as a staff, we can lead the players into being the very best they can be."
A native of East Kilbride, Scotland, MacLeod first came to the States to attend Lincoln Memorial University (Harrogate, Tenn.) where he was a standout on the pitch. He led Railsplitters to the first No. 1 ranking in school history as well as two Final Fours and an appearance in the 2007 NCAA championship match. After graduating in 2009, MacLeod returned to the other side of the pond and began work at Leeds Metropolitan University in Leeds, England, where he not only obtained his MS in Sport & Exercise Nutrition in 2010, but also began his coaching career. Since then, MacLeod has served in a coaching capacity at various levels, including spending three seasons as associated head coach with the women's program at Cincinnati prior to joining Ohio State.
