No. 8 Buckeyes Continue to Roll, Down Kentucky 2-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 8 Ohio State got a goal in each half and held on for a 2-1 victory over visiting Kentucky on Thursday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Buckeyes remain unbeaten in the first three matches, improving to 2-0-1 while Kentucky falls for the first time this year.
Junior Jadin Bonham put the Buckeyes up 1-0 in the 21st minute as she took a turnover from a Kentucky defender and slipped a shot past the keeper for her first goal of the season and the seventh of her career.
The Buckeyes would hold that lead into the half.
In the the second half, the Buckeyes controlled play for the first 25 minutes before breaking through for a second goal. Sophomore Riley Lijewski played a beautiful ball from wide on the right side of the field into the box. It deflected off a shoulder of a Kentucky defender right to the foot of sophomore Sydney Bering. She collected the ball and rifled a shot into the back of the net for her first career goal.
With just over 10 minutes to play, Kentucky put a ball in the net but after a VAR review, it was ruled to be a handball before the shot, and the goal was disallowed. The Wildcats continued to push and earned a penalty kick with just under five minutes to play. Nadia Ramadan converted to cut the Buckeye lead in half, 2-1.
Ohio State would see out the waning moments and secure a 2-1 win.

The Buckeyes will remain at home and host Princeton next Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. The program will honor its 10 seniors prior to the match.
