Makenna Webster, Leanne Bough and Hallie Brost score in the win
The Short Story
Senior forward Makenna Webster scored two goals in the final three minutes of the second quarter and Leanne Bough added a tally early in the third quarter to spark a Buckeye offense that produced 16 total shots on the afternoon.
Early in the fourth quarter, Hallie Brost cleaned up a rebound in front of the cage to the final score of the day. On the other end of the field, senior goalkeeper Abby Danson stopped five of the six shots that she faced.
The Weekend That Was
Sunday's win finished off a perfect 2-0 opening weekend for the Buckeyes. Ohio State outscored Lehigh and Lafayette by a combined score of 9-3. Offensively, eight different players scored goals.
It's the second consecutive year that the Buckeyes have started 2-0 with a pair of wins on the road. Last season, they defeated Northwestern, 4-0, and UAlbany, 3-0, to open the season.
How The Goals Were Scored
• With neither team able to get on the scoreboard over the first 26 minutes of regulation, Webster redirected a shot from Anne Marie Krebs from in close to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead with 3:08 to play in the first half.
• With just over one minute to go before halftime, Webster ran down a ball in transition and her reverse shot lifted past Lafayette goalie Raffi Fragomeni. With the score, Ohio State led 2-0 at halftime.
• Leanne Bough netted her second goal of the weekend 2:53 into the second half when she pulled a shot around Fragomeni.
• Lafayette scored late in the third quarter, but Brost quickly shifted the momentum back in Ohio State's favor with her first goal of the season at 46:57.
Buckeye This and That
• Despite a scoreless tie after the first quarter, the Buckeyes got the better of the majority of play with a 6-0 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in penalty corners.
• Makenna Webester, a senior forward from St. Louis, was in the starting lineup on Sunday. Just last week, she was participating for Team USA ice hockey at the USA vs. Canada Collegiate Select series in Lake Placid, N.Y.
• In its last 11 wins over non-conference opponents (nine last season and two in 2023), Ohio State has outscored its opposition 42-3.
• Webster finished the weekend with a team-high five points (two goals, one assist).
• In her first two collegiate games, Krebs totaled four points on a goal and two assists.
• Eight different players had at least one point this weekend.
• The Buckeyes had a 7-2 edge in penalty corners.
• Ohio State is 3-0 all-time against Lafayette.
