How it Happened
Emily Londot's solo block was the first point of the Buckeyes' season as OSU scored seven-unanswered points to take an early 7-1 lead. NKU cut its deficit to four at 11-7 before three-consecutive Buckeye points forced the Norse to call timeout at 14-7. Ohio State then extended its run to 6-0 and its lead to 17-7. After the Buckeyes led 20-10, the Norse scored the next three points before the teams alternated scoring to end the set with OSU on top by a 25-17 margin.
The Buckeyes scored the first five points of the second set, capped by a block from Eloise Brandewie and Chelsea Thorpe. Ohio State led 11-8 before the Norse won a challenge to trim OSU's lead to one at 11-10 and then tie the set at 11. NKU took its first lead of the match at 14-13 but kills from Thorpe and Londot sent OSU to the media timeout with the 15-14 lead. The next two points belonged to the Buckeyes, which forced a Northern Kentucky timeout. OSU stretched its lead to 18-14 and then scored three-unanswered points to prompt another Norse timeout at 23-17. Three late NKU points forced an OSU timeout but Londot's 12 kill sealed the 25-21 set win.
After a set-opening kill from Londot, NKU strung together its largest run of the match with the next five points. OSU responded with a 6-0 run of its own, including four kills from Londot, to take an 8-6 lead. The teams exchanged the lead before three Buckeye points gave OSU the 15-12 advantage.
