COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State women's volleyball team opens the 2023 season this weekend with a trio of matches at the NKU Tournament.

The Buckeyes face the host team on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by matches against Bowling Green on Saturday at 2 p.m. and East Tennessee State on Sunday at 11 a.m. All matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ with the NKU match also on Bally Sports Ohio.

Ohio State finished the 2022 season with a 22-10 record, making its first NCAA regional final appearance since 2004. The Buckeyes were 15-5 in Big Ten play.
OSU's 2023 roster includes a mix of returners with varying collegiate experience and seven newcomers in Jen Flynn Oldenburg's fourth season leading her alma mater.
Seniors Emily Londot and Rylee Rader were named to the 2023 Preseason All-Big Ten team after both earning All-Big Ten honors in 2022. They also both made Emily Ehman's top-20 players in the Big Ten with Londot being ranked seventh and Rader 15^th. Londot is also the reigning AVCA Northeast Region Player of the Year and was on the All-American Second Team.
Joining Londot and Rader as the 2023 Buckeye captains are senior Sarah Sue Morbitzer and junior Sydney Taylor.
Northern Kentucky finished the 2022 campaign with an 18-13 overall record and went 15-3 in Horizon League play. NKU made it to the conference championship match before falling to top-seeded Wright State.
NKU returns all three setters that saw playing time last season as well as defensive specialist Anna Burke, who led the team with 4.52 digs/set in 2022.
Ohio State leads 5-1 in the all-time series with Northern Kentucky. The teams most recently met in Columbus in 2021 with the Buckeyes earning a sweep. Before that meeting, the teams had not played since the 1981 season.
Bowling Green went 22-10 during the 2022 season and was 15-3 in Mid-American Conference matches. BGSU beat top-seeded Ball State in the MAC Tournament in five sets before falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Western Kentucky.
The Falcons return their leading hitter from last season in Lauryn Hovey, who averaged 2.99 kills/set, and lead setter Jaden Walz, who averaged 6.40 assists/set.
Ohio State owns all 12 previous meetings with Bowling Green. The teams most recently played in a tournament hosted by Western Kentucky in 2019 when the Buckeyes earned the sweep.
East Tennessee State wrapped up the 2022 season with a 21-8 record and was nearly perfect (15-1) in conference play to earn the regular season championship.
Amanda Lowe returns after averaging 2.45 kills/set last season (second on the team).
This is the first-ever meeting between Ohio State and East Tennessee State.
