Personal-Bests Abound for Buckeye Swimmers on Day Three in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – On the third night of the TYR Pro Championships on Friday, 10 Ohio State swimmers recorded personal best times. In addition, at time trials earlier in the day, the relay team of Mario McDonald, Daniel Baltes, Jean-Pierre Khouzam, and Evan Fentress broke the program record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:30.03.
Kyra Sommerstad and Mia Rankin placed sixth and seventh in the women's 400 IM, respectively. Sommerstad (4:50.46) and Rankin (4:50.65) both turned in personal best times.
Tristan Jankovics earned a sixth-place finish in the A final of the men's 400 IM with a time of 4:20.22. In the B final, Will Bansberg (4:24.83) placed fifth and Mason Edmund (4:26.54) finished seventh. Nathan Holty won the C final with a time of 4:23.90. Alex Metzler (4:27.90) and Owen Conley (4:31.49) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the C final. Bansberg and Metzler each recorded personal best times.
In the women's 100 fly, Katherine Zenick placed third in the B final with a personal-best time of 59.66. Morgan Kraus finished right behind Zenick, placing fourth with a personal-best time of 59.78. Miriam Guevara (1:02.07), making her Ohio State debut this week, placed eighth.
Fentress finished eighth in the A final of the men's 100 fly, touching the wall at 53.03, which is a personal best. In the C final, Khouzam placed second with a personal-best time of 53.58.
Amy Fulmer placed fourth in the women's 200 free B final; she turned in a time of 2:01.24, which is a personal best. Zenick finished eighth in the C final with a time of 2:05.86.
Josephine Panitz earned a third-place finish in the women's 100 breast A final with a time of 1:09.25 and Hannah Bach finished seventh with a time of 1:09.96.
In the C final of the men's 100 breast, Daniel Garcia swam a time of 1:01.64 to finish second.
Fulmer finished sixth in the A final of the women's 100 back, touching the wall at 1:01.82. Kraus finished fifth in the B final with a time of 1:02.59. Mackenzie DeWitt won the C final, finishing in a personal-best time of 1:01.97. Also in the C final, Paige Hall (1:03.92) finished sixth and Sommerstad (1:03.94) placed seventh.
Eli Stoll placed sixth in the C final of the men's 100 back with a time of 57.36.
The TYR Pro Championships wrap up on Saturday, July 29, with prelims beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET and finals at 8:00 p.m. ET.
