COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Maxwell Moldovan fired a 3-under 68 to lead Ohio State to a round of 5-over 289 in the second round of the Big Ten Championship at Galloway National Golf Club on Saturday.
The Buckeyes are 21-over through 36 holes and are tied for fifth with a round to play. Scoring was better on Saturday as the field’s scoring average was nearly 6 ½ shots better than Friday’s opening round.
Moldovan birdied three of his final four holes and would have a total of six birdies in a round of 3-under 68. That vaulted him up into a tie for fifth at 1-under par. That is just two shots off the individual lead. Moldovan has 10 birdies over the two rounds, which is tied for the most in the field.
Jackson Chandler birdied his last hole to post his second-consecutive round of 3-over 74. He is tied for 23rd at 6-over par. Neal Shipley also came in with a 74 on Saturday and is a shot behind Chandler at 7-over par and in 30th place.
Like Chandler, Adam Wallin birdied the par-4 18th to cap his round of 2-over 73. That has him in a tie for 37th at 9-over par. JonErik Alford came home in 75 and is 12-over through two rounds.
The Buckeyes are tied for fifth with Iowa, just three shots behind Indiana for fourth place. Those three teams will be paired together for the final round and will start at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.
