No. 9 Buckeyes Close Regular Season with Win at Maryland

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the final match of the regular season, the No. 9 Ohio State women's tennis team was a 4-0 winner at Maryland in College Park, Md., Sunday. In the victory, Danielle Willson was a winner in singles and doubles, Irina Cantos Siemers and Lucia Marzal posted singles victories and Kolie Allen, Isabelle Boulais and Shelly Bereznyak all had doubles wins.
Ohio State, 18-6 overall, completes Big Ten play 10-1, securing second place. The squad has been in the Top 3 each season since 2014. The Buckeyes earn a double bye in the Big Ten Tournament and will begin play in the quarterfinals Friday in West Lafayette, Ind.
In Doubles
- Maryland won the first completed doubles match, as Jojo Bach and Hannah McColgan topped Irina Cantos Siemers and Lucia Marzal, 6-3.
- Ohio State claimed the next two for the doubles point and 1-0 lead.
- On court one, Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson defeated Marta Perez Mur and Minorka Miranda, 6-3. Allen and Willson are now a team-best 13-3 this spring.
- The Buckeye tandem of Isabelle Boulais and Shelly Bereznyak sealed the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Marta Perez Mur and Minorka Miranda.
In Singles
- Danielle Willson put the Buckeyes ahead 2-0, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Francesca Feodorov on court six.
- Lucia Marzal followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Hannah McColgan on court five.
- Irina Cantos Siemers clinched the team victory. The No. 18-ranked Buckeye was a 6-3 6-2 winner against Marta Perez Mur on court one.
- The remaining matches were suspended. Isabelle Boulais was early in the third set on court three, as she rallied after dropping the first. Kolie Allen won the first set but trailed in the second on court four and Sydni Ratliff was in the second after dropping the first.
- Willson is 9-0 in dual matches this spring. Marzal is 15-2 and Cantos Siemers is 13-4.
