No. 9 Buckeyes Fall to No. 10 Nittany Lions in OT, 2-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9 Ohio State and No. 10 Penn State men's hockey teams will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday in game three of a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal series after the Nittany Lions won 2-1 in overtime Saturday. The Buckeyes took the series opener, 5-1, Friday. The game three winner will advance to next week's semifinal round.
In game two, there were no goals until the final 4 minutes of the third period. Penn State went ahead at 16:03 and Buckeye Joe Dunlap tied the game with an extra attacker goal at 18:26. In overtime, the Nittany Lions scored with the teams skating 4-on-4 at 10:35 for the win. Ohio State outshot Penn State in the game, 56-32.

Ohio State, the No. 3 seed, is now 19-14-3 on the year, and the No. 6 seed Nittany Lions are 21-14-1.
The Short Story
There were no goals through the first 56-plus minutes. Ohio Sate had the edge in shots in the first period, 13-10, and in the second, 16-9.
Each team was 0-for-1 on the power play in the first and to start the second. A major penalty was called on Penn State late in the second (after an Ohio State challenge), and carried into the third, but Ohio Sate was unable to convert the opportunity. The Buckeyes had the only full power play in the third, at 10:24, but did not score.
Penn State got on the board at 16:03, picking up an errant pass up the boards, with Xander Lamppa finding Ryan Kirwan all alone in front. With time winding down, Ohio State pulled its goalie. Joe Dunlap, who came onto the ice as the sixth skater, took a pass from Tyler Duke and tied the game from the circle at 18:26. Jake Wise had the second assist on the tally, Dunlap's 11th of the year. Ohio State had 18 shots in the third, with Penn State putting six on net.
At 10:17 of the first overtime, a Nittany Lion was called for tripping and a Buckeye was called for embellishment. Penn State scored 18 seconds later, with Kevin Wall tallying from the high slot off a pass from Connor MacEachern. Shots were 9-7 in favor of Ohio State in the OT.
The Buckeyes outshot the Nittany Lions, 56-32, in the game. Buckeye goalie Jakub Dobes played 70:27 and had 30 saves. Ohio State blocked 10 shots, led by Cole McWard, Scooter Brickey and Stephen Halliday with two each.
Neither team scored on the power play – Ohio State was 0-for-4, with Penn State 0-for-2.
