
Six Buckeyes Score In 6-1 Win Over St. Thomas

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Six different Buckeyes tallied a goal as the No. 1/2 Ohio State women’s hockey team earned a 6-1 win over St. Thomas Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes (26-3-2, 21-3-1 WCHA) had 11 players record a point and held the Tommies (8-22-1, 3-21-1 WCHA) to just 15 shots on goal in the victory.
How it Happened
- The Buckeyes were quick to take the lead, scoring just 35 seconds into the game. On Ohio State’s first possession in the St. Thomas zone of the day, Makenna Webster collected a pass from Jenna Buglioni in the slot and finished stick-side high on the Tommies’ Saskia Maurer. Emma Maltais earned the second assist on the goal.
- Not even 10 seconds into the Buckeyes’ first penalty kill of the day, Maltais skated the puck from the Ohio State zone all the way to the Tommies’ goal. Her initial shot was saved by Maurer, but the Burlington, Ont. native immediately knocked the rebound into the back of the net to put Ohio State up, 2-0, at 4:49.
- Thomas added a goal with just under 3:00 to play in the first period, making it a 2-1 Buckeye lead at the first intermission.
- Ohio State went on to score four unanswered goals, two in each the second and third periods.
- Paetyn Levis tallied her team-high 20th goal of the season with a goal at 1:41 into the second frame. Ohio State regained the puck at center ice, with Webster sending it to Levis, who carried it into the St. Thomas zone. The Rogers, Minn. native took it to the goal herself, finishing top-right on Maurer.
- Gabby Rosenthal added her third goal in as many games by doing what she does best – scoring on rebounded shots in the goalie crease. Rosenthal’s goal came at 15:10 in the second period with assists going to Lauren Bernard and Buglioni.
- The third period scoresheet belonged to the Buckeye freshmen. Freshman forward Emerson Jarvis tallied her first career goal on home ice, scoring at 10:33 in the third frame. Freshman defenseman Emma Peschel recorded the Buckeyes’ final goal of the game with 1:19 left to play and fellow freshman Sloane Matthews added an assist. Brook Bink, Maltais and Ramsey Parent earned assists on the goals.
- The team held the Tommies to just seven shots on goal in the final 40:00 of play. Goaltender Amanda Thiele posted 14 saves on the day.
Game Notes
- Emma Maltais’ first period short-handed goal is the Buckeyes second of the season. The goal is her fourth shorthanded goal of her career. She added two assists to bring her season total to a team-high 30 helpers on the year.
- Freshman Emerson Jarvis scored her first career goal on Saturday, netting the Buckeyes’ fifth goal of the evening. She also added an assist on the day for a career-high two-point game.
- Ramsey Parent earned her first point of the season with an assist on Jarvis’ goal.
- Jenna Buglioni tallied a career-high tying three assists in Friday’s win over St. Thomas. She has now recorded three assists twice in her career, with the last time being Oct. 15, 2021 against Bemidji State.
- Amanda Thiele posted her 14th win of the season on Friday. She made 14 saves on the day for Ohio State.
- Ohio State has now recorded a program-record tying 21 conference wins this season. The Buckeyes have three more WCHA games to play this season.
- The team improves to 12-1-2 on the year at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes yet again played in front of a capacity crowd at their home rink.
