
No. 7 Buckeyes Drop Series Opener at Notre Dame, 2-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7 Ohio State men's hockey team lost to Notre Dame, 2-1, Friday evening in Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind. The Irish scored once in each of the first two periods before the Buckeyes got on the board with a power play goal in the third. Ohio State was unable to find the back of the net for the equalizer.
Ohio State falls to 17-11-1 on the year and 10-9-0 in the Big Ten. The Irish are 14-14-3 and have a 9-10-2-1-0-1 league record. The squads will close the weekend and regular season series at 6 p.m. Saturday, with the game streamed through Peacock and on Ohio State Radio.
Quoting head coach Steve Rohlik
"This was a tough loss on the road in a hard-fought, tight game. It was the usual style Notre Dame plays; they took advantage of their chances and played with the lead. We tried to play catchup all night. We need to bounce back tomorrow."
How it Happened
The Irish scored the only goal of the first period at 18:09 and made it 2-0 seven minutes into the second with a breakaway goal. Landon Slaggert scored both Irish goals. Ohio State outshot Notre Dame 11-6 in the first period and 13-7 in the second. In the third, Jake Wise tallied at 10:15 on the power play to cut the Irish lead in half. Travis Treloar and Stephen Halliday assisted on the Wise goal, his team-best seventh on the power play. Ohio State again had the edge in shots, 14-9, including three on goal in the final two minutes when it skated with the net empty, but was unable to complete the rally. The Irish blocked 19 shot attempts in the game. Ohio State had nine blocks in the loss.
Ohio State had the edge in shots, 38-22, for the game. The Buckeyes had the only power play goal, converting one of four chances, and the penalty kill was 3-for-3.

- Halliday leads the Buckeyes with 24 assists and 31 points. He has seven assists in his last four games combined.
- Wise now has 10 goals this season, the fourth Buckeye with double-digit tallies. He is second on the team with 25 points.
- The Buckeyes are among the NCAA leaders on the penalty kill, stopping 101-of-113 (.894) opponent chances.
- Ohio State is 26-for-119 (.218) with the man advantage.
