Quoting head coach Steve Rohlik
"We worked hard and I felt like we deserved a better fate. That's the way it goes sometimes. Notre Dame's goalie played well. Unfortunately, they got the extra point in the standings."
How it Happened

- In the second, senior Dalton Messina's first career goal put Ohio State up 2-0. Tate Singleton kept the puck in and it ended up on the stick of Scooter Brickey. He found Messina in the faceoff circle and his shot snuck through at 3:08.
- Jack Adams put the Irish on the board at 6:53 and a Nick Lievermann power play goal at 10:47 from inside the faceoff circle deadlocked the game.
- Ohio State had the edge in shots in the second, 18-8, and in the third, 20-6.
- With neither team able to find the back of the net again, the game went to a five-minute 3×3 overtime. Ohio State put five shots on goal in OT, Notre Dame three, but both goalies held strong.
- For NCAA purposes, the game finished as a tie. A shootout was held for an extra point in the Big Ten standings.
