
Buckeyes Return to Action Saturday vs. Mercyhurst

- The Ohio State men's hockey team returns from its winter break Saturday when it hosts Mercyhurst in a nonconference game.Â
- The teams will meet at 5 p.m. in Value City Arena in Columbus.Â
- The game will be streamed through Big Ten Plus and live stats will be available through OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- A glow wand giveaway and New Year's Eve themed photo booth will help fans Ring in the New Year at the game Saturday. A free postgame Skate with the Buckeyes will be held (fans must bring their own skates).Â

- Ohio State is 5-8-4 on the year (0-8-2 0-0-2 B1G) and last played Dec. 8-9, with a loss and tie/shootout win vs. No. 10/9 Minnesota. Mercyhurst is 6-8-3 (4-3-3 Atlantic Hockey) Â and split a series at home vs. Army Dec. 8-9 in its last games.Â
- The Buckeyes and Lakers met in the season opener for both teams Oct. 7 in Erie, Pa., with Ohio State posting a 4-3 win.Â
- The Buckeyes have an all-time record of 14-3-1 vs. Mercyhurst, including a 7-3-0 ledger in Columbus.Â
- Ohio State will close nonconference play next weekend with a home-and-home series against Bowling Green Jan. 5-6. The regular season ends with seven straight Big Ten series, with four of the seven at home.Â
- So far this season, 20 Buckeyes have gotten on the scoresheet, including 15 goal scorers.Â
- Three Buckeyes - Stephen Halliday (13), Davis Burnside (12) and Scooter Brickey (11) - have hit double-digit points this year.

- The last three matchups have all been on Laker home ice. The last games in Columbus were Nov. 26-27, 2021, when the teams split the series (Mercyhurst 5-4, Ohio State 3-2).
- The Buckeyes began the season on the road against Mercyhurst, with a 4-3 win Oct. 7. It was the second season in a row the Buckeyes kicked off the year in Erie.
- Ohio State turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead less than three minutes into the third period en route to a 4-3 victory at Mercyhurst Oct. 7 to open the season.
- Ohio State outshot Mercyhurst 18-6 in the first period but the Lakers netted the only goal.
- In the second Buckeye Michael Gildon tied the game early but Mercyhurst again pushed ahead and led 2-1 at the second intermission.
- In the third, Davis Burnside deadlocked the game less than a minute into the period and Scooter Brickey put the Buckeyes ahead with a power play goal just 1:16 later. Burnside's second of the game at 18:46 moved Ohio State's advantage to 4-2. A Laker goal in the final second led to the 4-3 final.
- Ohio State had the edge in shots, 48-21, and was 1-for-4 on the power play, with a 3-for-3 game on the penalty kill.
