COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7/6 Ohio State women's basketball team (0-1) hosts IUPUI (1-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Buckeyes' home opener. The game will be broadcast live on B1G+.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a free t-shirt. Be sure to stay after the game for a meet and greet with the team in the North Dining area of the concourse. Sunday is also parent appreciation day and family day as parents of the Buckeye women's basketball team will be recognized. · Ohio State entered the season ranked seventh in the AP poll and sixth in the coaches' poll after making its first Elite Eight appearance in 30 years last season. The Buckeyes return 10 players from the 2022-23 roster and 72% of last season's scoring, including getting Jacy Sheldon fully healthy. In the offseason, OSU added three transfers and two freshmen.
· Sheldon and reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year Cotie McMahon were both named to the Big Ten's Preseason Team as the Buckeyes were picked to finish second by the coaches and third by the media. Sheldon, McMahon and transfer Celeste Taylor all earned preseason honors outside of the Big Ten.
· The Buckeyes fell 83-74 to No. 21/21 USC in the season opener on Monday at the inaugural Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas despite forcing 20 turnovers and totaling 10 steals. Each team had a 30+ point quarter in a game of runs.
· Sheldon led the OSU offense with 28 points, the 27th 20-point game of her career, while Taylor Thierry totaled 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
· IUPUI won its season opener against Eastern Illinois by a 77-72 margin on Monday after finishing the 2022-23 season with a 17-13 overall record in Kate Bruce's first year at the helm of the program.
· Katie Davidson led three double-figure scorers in the win against Eastern Illinois with 32 points, while Jazmyn Turner earned a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
· Ohio State has won both previous meetings against IUPUI, though the teams have not met since Nov. 2009. Both previous meetings have also taken place in Columbus.
· The In the most recent meeting on Nov. 28. 2009, the Buckeyes won 88-33 in the Buckeye Classic. The first meeting in the series was on Dec. 1, 2003 when Ohio State earned the 96-48 victory.
