- Ohio State enters the match with a 5-8 record this season and a 2-2 record in Big Ten play after sweeping Maryland (25-23, 25-22, 25-12) on Sunday afternoon at the Covelli Center on alumnae day. The Buckeyes posted a season-best 15 blocks, forcing their opponent to hit in the red during the match (-.098) for the first time this season.
- Senior Emily Londot continues to lead Ohio State's offense as she leads the conference in kills/set (4.68) and is third in points/set (5.12), ranking in the top-15 in the country in both categories as of Tuesday. Freshman Mia Tuman ranks fifth in the Big Ten in assists/set (9.40).
- Freshman Kaitlyn Hoffman has excelled after stepping into the libero role and is now averaging 3.22 digs/set, while freshman Eloise Brandewie leads the Buckeye block with 37 total (0.79 blocks/set) after a career-best seven blocks on Sunday vs. Maryland.
- Rutgers holds an 8-6 record overall and is 0-4 in Big Ten matches, being swept by then No. 15 Penn State and No. 19 Purdue during B1G opening weekend. The Scarlet Knights also lost in four sets to Maryland and Michigan State.
- Rutgers opened the season with three wins and strung together a five-match winning streak during the non-conference slate.

- Penn State leads 51-21 in the all-time series against Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 7-28 when facing the Nittany Lions in University Park.
- The Buckeyes earned a pair of five-set wins last season, winning at home (25-17, 25-15, 25-27, 22-25, 15-11) on Oct. 7 and on the road (19-25, 27-25, 26-28, 25-14, 17-15) on Oct. 29.
