Buckeyes Drop Back-and-Forth Match at No. 19 Nebraska
10/29/2023 4:41:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The loss drops Ohio State to 9-7-2 overall on the season and the Buckeyes will now wait to find out their NCAA Tournament fate as the selection show is Monday, Nov. 6. Nebraska advances with its seventh consecutive victory.
The Buckeyes' two goals came from their standout freshmen in Amanda Schlueter and Ava Bramblett. Schlueter now has 19 points on the season while Bramblett scored her third goal of the year and her first since Sept. 7.
How it Happened
Both teams took a bit to settle in but once they did, the goals came quick. Nebraska scored at the 34- minute mark as Eleanor Dale finished a cross right in front of the net to put the Huskers in front 1-0. Just over a minute later, the Buckeye got the equalizer on a beautiful play. McNamara slid a pass forward to Dudukovich who made a nice touch pass that Schlueter to the goal and the freshman finished for her sixth goal of the season.
Nebraska answered right back 90 seconds later with a goal by Sarah Weber and the Huskers would take a 2-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Buckeyes pulled even again 10 minutes into the second half. Bramblett corralled a ball and dribbled to about 25 yards out and laced a right-footed rocket. It was perfectly placed into the top-left corner of the goal, just out of the reach of the Nebraska keeper. The goal was Bramblett's third of the season.
But just like in the first half, Nebraska answered with a quick goal. Dale collected her second goal of the game with a header in the 64th minute to put the Cornhuskers back in front 3-2.
The Buckeyes kept generating chances, but the Husker defense held on down the stretch.
Keeper Molly Pritchard made a number of tremendous saves to keep the Buckeyes in the match. She ended the game with seven saves to push her season total to 76.
