Badgers Beat Buckeyes in Madison on Wednesday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes (7-11, 4-5 B1G) fell in straight sets (22-25, 15-25, 18-25) to No. 1 Wisconsin (18-0, 9-0 B1G) in the teams' second meeting of the season on Wednesday night in Madison.

After a strong Ohio State start, Wisconsin used a run midway through the first set to take the lead and held off the Buckeyes' push to earn a 25-22 set win in the first. In the second set, the Badgers opened scoring and earned the 25-15 set win. After being close early in the third set, Wisconsin used a run to secure a 25-18 set win to close the match.

Kaitlyn Hoffman tallied double-figure digs for the 10th time this season, leading the Buckeyes with 10. Rylee Rader and Emily Londot each had nine kills to lead the OSU offense. Rader extended her ace streak to eight-straight matches and leads the team with 17 aces on the season.

How it Happened
Ohio State scored the first four points of the match and built an early 6-1 lead to force a Wisconsin timeout. The Badgers used a 4-0 run to tie the set at seven and took their first lead of the set at 9-8. Wisconsin scored three consecutive points to take a 16-12 lead, prompting an OSU timeout. The Buckeyes took a second timeout trailing 20-15. The Badgers led by as many as six points at 22-16, before an extended 6-2 Ohio State run got the Buckeyes within two at 24-22 and forced a Wisconsin timeout. The Badgers scored next to earn a 25-22 set win.

Wisconsin scored the first three points of the second set before a pair of OSU points. Ohio State took its first lead of the set at 5-4 before the set was tied at points five through seven. The Badgers used 6-1 run to take a 13-8 lead and force a Buckeye timeout. Ohio State took a second timeout after Wisconsin scored four more unanswered points to extend its lead to 17-8. The Badgers won the set 25-15 to earn the 2-0 advantage in the match.

The Buckeyes opened scoring in the third set before a 3-0 Badgers run. After being tied at five, Wisconsin scored the next four points. The teams traded some points with the Badgers having a 15-10 lead at the media timeout. The Buckeyes scored the next two points following the media timeout before a 5-1 Wisconsin run forced an OSU timeout trailing 20-13. Ohio State got within four points at 22-18, but Wisconsin scored the final three points of the match.
