COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team will host the 50th Robert Kepler Intercollegiate this weekend at the Columbus Country Club. This will be the final event of the regular season as the Big Ten Tournament will be played next weekend. Live scoring of all 54 holes this weekend will be available on Golfstat.com.
- Ohio State’s lineup this week will include Maxwell Modovan, Adam Wallin, Jackson Chandler, Marco Steyn and Patrick Schmucking. JonErik Alford, Grant Engle and Drew Mulcahy joins the group this weekend as individuals.
- The tournament is named for the late Robert Kepler, who served as Ohio State’s golf coach from 1938 until 1965.
- Since its inception, the Kepler has been won by only a dozen schools – Colorado, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Illinois, Kent State, Louisville, Miami (Ohio), Northwestern, Ohio State, UNLV and Xavier.
- The Buckeyes have hoisted the tournament champion trophy 24 times in the 49-year history of, including six-consecutive victories from 1974-79 and nine-consecutive from 1981-1989.
- Ohio State has finished in the Top 6 at each of its last of last six events and has been under-par in the last four tournaments.
- The Buckeyes won the Southern Invitational and have had three medalists this spring.
- Maxwell Moldovan won the NEXUS Collegiate and the Southern Invitational for the first two wins of his career. He leads the team with a 70.58 scoring average and has carded a round at par or better in each of his last 10 rounds.
- Adam Wallin won the Colleton River Collegiate for his first victory as a Buckeye. He is just behind Moldovan in scoring at 71.15 and he has finished in the Top 20 in six of his seven events this year.
- Marco Steyn is third on the team in scoring at 73.17. He shot a 4-under 67 in round two of the Mason Rudolph Championship which was tied for this lowest round as a Buckeye.
- Jackson Chandler is coming off a Top 20 finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship following rounds of 69-70-72. He was the top Buckeye finisher at the Kepler last year, tying for seventh after an opening round 67.
- Patrick Schmucking is averaging 73.29 but has carded just one round higher than 75 in his last three events.
- The weather forecast is typically not talked about at the Kepler, especially when it looks favorable for the weekend. So we’ll just leave it at that for now.
