COLUMBUS, Ohio— The No. 9 Ohio State women’s rowing team will host the No. 11 Virginia, No. 12 Duke Saturday with No. 4 Michigan also racing in Columbus against the same ACC squads in an ACC/Big Ten Regatta at Griggs Reservoir. The regatta will be divided into two sessions, the first at 9 a.m. with an afternoon session staring at 1 p.m.
Both sessions of the regatta will be streamed live on B1G+. This will be the first Ohio State home regatta streamed live from Griggs Reservoir, home of the Buckeyes.
There will be four cameras utilized on chase boats and at the finish line. The cameras will transmit video via cell service to a main server located in the video control room at the Covelli Center on the Ohio State campus.
Once received, Helen Sudhoff, who twice lettered with the Buckeyes (2017-18), will call the action from the Covelli Center from a multi-screen display. Audio commentary will be embedded into the video stream and broadcast HERE on B1G+.
Races times are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. but are subject to change because of weather. Check OhioStateBuckeyes.com and the team Twitter account (@OhioStateWROW) for updates.
Ohio State is racing its second regatta of the season and first at home. The Buckeyes traveled to Camden, N.J., last weekend to face Princeton and Brown. For results from that event, go HERE.
This is the third season under the direction of head coach Kate Sweeney, who guided the Buckeyes to a sixth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Championships and to a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships last year.
During the offseason, six Buckeyes participated in the Tokyo Olympics. Three of those performers are rowing for the Buckeyes this season. Alessandra Montesano took the 2021 season off from collegiate competition to row for Italy at the Olympics. Incoming freshmen Maria and Anetta Kyridou rowed for Greece. Also back for the 2022 Buckeyes are 2021 All-Americans Rachel DeWitte and Jessy Vermeer. The duo, along with the departed Leonie Heuer, were 2021 College Rowing Coaches Association Pocock All-America squad members a season ago.
The Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame added another former Buckeye rower to its roster last fall when Amanda Purcell was inducted. The former walk-on rowed for Ohio State from 2003-05 and became a first team Pocock All-America as a senior. For more on her career and induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame, go HERE.
