COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team looks to continue a good start to the spring when it heads to South Carolina this week for the Colleton River Collegiate. The tournament will be played on the Nicklaus Course at the Colleton River Club in Bluffton, S.C. The first and second rounds will be played on Monday and the final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
- Ohio State’s lineup this week will feature Maxwell Modovan, Patrick Schmucking, Marco Steyn, Adam Wallin and JonErik Alford.
- The Buckeyes opened the spring with a runner-up finish at the NEXUS Collegiate in the Bahamas.
- Maxwell Moldovan claimed his first collegiate victory at the NEXUS Collegiate. He played extremely in very windy conditions and was second in the field with 10 birdies.
- Moldovan was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Feb. 23 following his victory.
- Moldovan leads the Buckeyes with a scoring average of 71.67. He has three Top 20 finishes in four events this season.
- Adam Wallin has posted a pair of Top 10 finishes so far this spring. He finished third in the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate and then tied for seventh at the NEXUS Collegiate. He opened the NEXUS with a sensational 4-under 68 which was the lowest round of the event.
- JonErik Alford posted his best finish in a full-field event at the NEXUS Collegiate, tying for 16th.
- Patrick Schmucking was second this past fall in scoring at 71.89. He posted four rounds at par or better and was second on the team with 27 birdies. He closed the Windon Memorial with a career-low 4-under 67 to finish at 1-under par, his only under-par event as a Buckeye.
- Steyn, a Wake Forest transfer, has played in all five events so far this season for the Buckeyes.
- The Buckeyes played in four events in the fall, culminating with the Barbara Nicklaus Cup at Muirfield Village. The event was a mixed men’s and women’s match play event that saw the Buckeyes finish in third place.
- Temperatures this week in Bluffton are expected to be around 80 degrees on both Monday and Tuesday with very little chance of rain.
