COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team fell to Bemidji State, 3-2, in the final second of the game on Friday night at the Sanford Center. The Buckeyes are now 22-6-0 overall and 18-6-0 in the WCHA while the Beavers improve to 11-15-3 and 8-15-2 in conference play.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes were first to score on Friday night as Gabby Rosenthal snuck in a goal in the final seconds of the first period. On the power play, Ohio State made the most of a Beaver turnover at the blueline as Rosenthal connected with Sophie Jaques for a give-and-go to give Ohio State the one-goal lead with just two seconds left to play in the first. The Buckeyes landed 24 shots on goal in the period while holding the Beavers to just three.
Bemidji State scored the next two goals, taking a one-goal lead with 13:22 to play in the game. The team’s first goal was the lone tally of the second period, scored at 16:28.
Ohio State’s Clair DeGeorge, a graduate transfer from Bemidji State, scored the game-tying goal for the Buckeyes with 7:35 remaining. Jaques took a shot that was rebounded to DeGeorge’s stick, and DeGeorge made the backhanded shot to bring the game to 2-2.
With the game tied and under 30 seconds to play, Ohio State pulled goaltender Amanda Thiele. The Buckeyes sent the puck to the Bemidji cage but the rebounded shot was collected by the Beavers and sent into the empty Ohio State goal as time expired.
