
Ohio State Bounces Back To Top Bemidji State, 8-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team bounced back in a big way from Friday night’s disappointing loss, topping Bemidji State 8-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes are now 23-6-0 overall and 19-6-0 in the WCHA while the Beavers improve to 11-16-3 and 8-16-2 in conference play.
Ohio State was paced by eight different goal scorers. Claire DeGeorge finished with a game-high four points on a goal and three assists while Paetyn Levis added a goal and two assists.
Ohio State outshot Bemidji 56-15. Goalie Raygan Kirk made 14 saves in a winning effort, improving her record to 4-0 this season.
How It Happened
- Ohio State scored four times in the first period and jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the first intermission.
- Sophie Jaques opened the scoring at the 13:07 mark with assists from Sara Saekkinen and Lexi Templeman and Riley Brengman followed up less than a minute later. Eve Savander and Clair DeGeorge assisted on the play.
- The Buckeyes would add two more scores in the final six minutes, the first coming off the stick of Jennifer Gardiner on a power play.
- Two minutes later, DeGeorge scored with assists to Paetyn Levis and Liz Schepers to make the score 4-0.
- On Gardiner’s goal at 5:50 of the first period, Jaques picked up an assist to give her 100 career points.
- The only goal of the second period came for Bemidji State, which found the back of the next with 2:05 remaining before intermission to make the score 4-1 in favor of Ohio State.
- Much like the first period, the Buckeyes controlled the offensive possession and had a 24-3 edge in shots in the second period.
- Paetyn Levis and Jenna Buglioni scored third-period goals to give the Buckeyes a 6-1 lead before Madisyn Wiebe and Liz Schepers closed out the scoring.
