
Charley’s Pair of Goals Leads Ohio State to a 7-1 Win at Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team won its season-best fourth consecutive game on Sunday, defeating Ohio, 7-1, at Pruitt Field in Athens. The Buckeyes improve to 7-5 on the season while Ohio is 5-7.
The Short Story
Senior Sarah Charley scored twice and added an assist to led an offensive attack that generated 22 total shots. For the weekend, Charley had four goals in wins over Central Michigan and Ohio.
The Buckeyes also got goals from Emma Goldean, Leanne Bough, Zella Bailey, Loryn Jordon and Megan McKenna in the win. After holding a 1-0 lead after the first quarter, Ohio State scored twice in the second, third and fourth quarters to pull away.
How The Goals Were Scored
- Charley continued her torrid scoring pace for the weekend when she found the back of the cage for the third time in the last two games.
- Her score, which gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead, came four minutes in the opening quarter.
- Less than four minutes into the second quarter, Emma Goldean increased Ohio State's lead to 2-0 with the third tally of her season.
- Ohio would cut the Ohio State lead in half two minutes later on a Maddie Coombe score, but the Buckeye lead went back to two goals just before halftime courtesy of Leanne Bough, who scored for the third time season.
- Bough's tally made the score 3-1 at halftime. The Buckeyes outshot Ohio 11-5 in the first 30 minutes and had a 3-2 edge in penalty corners.
- Megan McKenna got on the scoresheet for the first time this season in the 40th minute when she finished off a pass from Bough.
- Freshman Zella Bailey scored for the second time this season in the 43rd minute to increase Ohio State's lead to 5-1. It was the third tally of the season for the newcomer from Virginia Beach, Va.
- Charley completed her scoring day 2:26 into the fourth quarter when she scored off a pass from Claudia Thomas.
- Freshman Loryn Jordon scored her first career goal – unassisted – at 55:43 of the fourth quarter to make the score 7-1 in favor of Ohio State.

- Makenna Webster pulled off a unique tripleheader this weekend. The junior from St. Louis scored two goals in a 7-1 win over Central Michigan on Friday and then suited up with her other team – the defending national champion women's ice hockey squad – on Saturday. Against St. Cloud, Webster had an assist in a 6-2 victory. And today, she started again for the field hockey Buckeyes.

Ohio State returns to Big Ten Conference play next weekend when it hosts No. 3 Northwestern (10-3) on Friday and No. 4 Iowa (9-2) on Sunday. Both games will be streamed live on B1G+.
