At 11:52 of the third Jake Wise notched Ohio State's second power play goal of the game and defenseman Cole McWard tallied the gamewinner at 15:22. Freshman forward Stephen Halliday had three assists in the victory, including on both third-period goals. Senior transfer defenseman Scooter Brickey had two helpers.
Quoting head coach Steve Rohlik
"To be honest with you, I thought we were playing ok. A couple mistakes and they're up two-zip. It didn't feel that way. We just had to keep playing our game and that's what we talked about. Even getting down three-zip These guys have done it before. Just proud of the group. That's a really good hockey team, a lot of talent over there. To come back by three, that's a good win."
Quoting fifth-year senior forward Jake Wise
"We never felt like we were going to lose. Even when they scored that third one, it was just right back to business. That's kind of been the story of our team the last couple of years. We're confident in our ability to win those third periods."

- Ohio State ended the first period on a major power play that started at 18:09,
- The Buckeyes were unable to take advantage of that power play chance, with the Badgers' Owen Lindmark instead scoring shorthanded after a turnover by the Buckeye net. That gave the Badgers a 3-0 lead just 34 seconds into the second.
- With two goals in 28 seconds, Ohio State drew within one. The Buckeyes got on the board with a power play goal at 10:41, as Travis Treloar one-timed a Stephen Halliday pass from high in the slot, with Mason Lohrei also assisting.

- Ohio State notched its second power play goal of the game at 11:52, with Jake Wise scoring from the far post after Michael Gildon put the puck toward the net. Halliday picked up the second assist on the PPG.
- The gamewinner came from defenseman Cole McWard at 15:22. In the Buckeye zone, Brickey passed to Halliday, who led McWard up the left wing. He skated in and beat his defender, scoring shortside from in close.
- Each team had just four shots on goal in the third period. Wisconsin skated with the net empty for most of the final 90 seconds. Ohio State closed out the win with a block from Wise and two saves from Jakub Dobes.
- Ohio State ended the game ahead in shots, 28-20. Dobes had 17 saves and McWard led the Buckeyes with two shot blocks.
