
No. 11 Buckeyes Skate to 0-0 Tie at No. 17 UConn

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind 20 saves from Jakub Dobeš, the No. 11 Ohio State men's hockey team opened its series at No. 17 UConn with a 0-0 tie Friday in the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The Buckeyes, who put 43 shots on net, remain undefeated, improving to 4-0-1 this season. UConn is also 4-0-1.
The teams will close the weekend series at 4:05 p.m. Saturday in Hartford, with the game streamed through ESPN+.
The scoreless tie was the second in Ohio State history and first since Feb. 27, 2010 vs. Miami. Dobeš now has four shutouts in his career. This season he has a 1.38 goals-against average and .940 save percentage, starting the Buckeyes' first five games.
Quoting head coach Steve Rohlik
"We played a really good team game on the road vs. a really good hockey team. I wish we had capitalized on a few of our chances. It was nice to secure the shootout win. We need to be better tomorrow."
Quoting senior forward Jaedon Leslie
"It was a good effort from our team, but we can be better tomorrow. We have to finish on our chances and clean up some structure, but overall it was a solid effort against a good team."
The Short Story
Ohio State outshot UConn 15-4 in the first period and 16-6 in the second before each team put nine shots on net in the third. In overtime, the Buckeyes had three of the four shots that went on net. Mason Lohrei led Ohio State with seven shots on goal in the game; in all, 18 of the 19 Buckeye skaters had at least one shot on net. Ohio State had the shot advantage, 43-20, for the game.
Ohio State was unable to score on six power play chances, including an extended 5-on-3 that carried over into the start of the third. Ten of the Buckeyes' shots in the game came with the man advantage. Ohio State was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The game ended with an exhibition shootout, won by the Buckeyes, 1-0 in three rounds. Travis Treloar scored in the second round and Dobeš had three stops in the shootout.
