
Ohio State Tops Central Michigan for Third Consecutive Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team won its third consecutive game, downing Central Michigan on Friday, 7-1, at Buckeye Varsity Field. The win improves the Buckeyes' record to 6-5 overall. Central Michigan is 1-11.
The Short Story
The Buckeyes got onto the board quickly as Sarah Charley capitalized just 30 seconds into the game. Ohio State extended its lead to 3-0 by the end of the first quarter. The score remained 3-0 at halftime with OSU leading 16-2 in shots and 5-0 in penalty corners. Makenna Webster scored her second of the game in the third quarter, the first of four Buckeye goals in the quarter to increase the OSU lead to 7-0 after 45 minutes of play. Central Michigan got on the board after time expired as a penalty corner chance played out.
How It Happened
- Charley began the game quickly for the Buckeyes by scoring her fifth goal of the season just 30 seconds into the game off the pads of the Chippewa goalkeeper.
- Claudia Thomas followed with her fourth goal of the season, capitalizing on her own rebound six minutes into the game.
- Ohio State extended its lead to 3-0 in the first quarter as Webster took her own rebound around the goalkeeper to cap scoring for the quarter.
- Webster scored her second of the day on a cross pass from Leanne Bough midway through the third quarter.
- Grace Kim redirected a shot from Malen Iglesias for her first goal of the season with five minutes remaining in the third quarter.
- Emma Goldean redirected the initial penalty corner shot from Charley less than four minutes to play in the third.
- The final goal of the third quarter came from Charley, her second of the day, on a cross pass from Lindsey Roberts.
- Central Michigan scored its lone goal by playing out a penalty corner with time expiring in the game.
