
No. 11 Buckeyes Fall on the Road to No. 17 UConn

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In game two of a non-conference series, the No. 11 Ohio State men's hockey team lost to No. 17 UConn, 6-1, Saturday in the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The teams both entered the weekend 4-0 on the year and skated to a 0-0 tie Friday evening. The loss drops Ohio State to 4-1-1 and the Huskies stay undefeated at 5-0-1.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period but UConn scored the only two goals of the second and pushed the lead to 4-1 just 61 seconds into the third. The Huskies added two more before the final whistle for the 6-1 final.

The Buckeyes will play their next two series at home, starting with games vs. Bentley at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday in Value City Arena. A series with Minnesota follows, with the teams meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28 on BTN and at 5 p.m. Oct. 29 streamed on Big Ten Plus.

"We didn't play very well. We kind of got away from our game and couldn't get it back. You can't do that against a top team on the road and expect to get results. It's back to work this week."
How it Happened
- The teams combined for just nine shots in the first period – six for Ohio State and three for UConn – and each team scored once in the final 2:49.
- The Huskies' Matthew Wood opened the scoring at 17:11, scoring on a one-timer shortly after Ohio State killed a power play. The goal ended a shutout streak of 163:25 for Buckeye goalie Jakub Dobes vs. UConn.
- With 1:03 left in the first Kamil Sadlocha tied the game with his second goal of the year. Jake Wise won the battle behind the puck and backhanded a pass to Patrick Guzzo at the near post and he found Sadlocha in front.
- Ohio State outshot UConn 15-9 in the second but the Huskies scored the only two goals, coming 1:20 apart. Ty Amonte tallied at 16:18 and Ryan Tverberg scored at 14:58.
- UConn pushed its lead to 4-1 just 1:01 into the third and extended the score to 6-1 with two goals in 1:37 midway through the period. The Huskies had the first eight shots on net in the third and outshot Ohio State in the stanza, 18-10.
- The Buckeyes were outshot in the game, 34-29, the first time this season they did not have the shot advantage. Ohio State is averaging 38.83 shots on goal per outing, allowing 25.0 a game.
- Ohio State was 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and 0-for-3 on the power play. The Buckeyes are 21-for-22 (.955) on the penalty kill this season.
