COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State scored four times in the first 11 minutes and never let off the gas in a 7-0 victory over Maryland on Thursday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The Buckeyes celebrated Pink Night in a big way, netting seven goals in a game for the first time since 2018. They improve to 9-2-3 on the season and 4-1-2 in conference play. The Buckeyes are now unbeaten in their last six matches.
Kailyn Dudukovich had a hat trick and Emma Sears scored twice while Kayla Fischer pushed her goal streak to four games.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes wasted little time in getting on the board as Emma Sears found the back of the net with a nifty goal just 32 seconds into the match. She scored again just under four minutes later as the Maryland keeper made the save on her initial shot, but she corralled the rebound and slid the ball into the open net.
The scoring onslaught continued as Sydney Jones played a beautiful through ball up to Kayla Fischer and she showed her skill in beating a pair of Terrapin defenders as well as the keeper to push the lead to 3-0 in the sixth minute.
The next two goals came on penalty kicks in the 12th and 22nd minutes, both off the foot of Kailyn Dudukovich. Fischer won both fouls in the box, forcing the errant tackles. The scoring then slowed as the Buckeyes took a 5-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Sears again got behind the Maryland defense and had a great scoring opportunity. Her shot was saved but the rebound found the foot of Dudukovich and she netted her third goal of the night. Just 29 seconds later, Kine Flotre got in on the action as she hit a laser from the top of the back past the keeper into the upper right side of the net. That was her second goal of the season and made the final score 7-0.
Notes
- Fischer scored a goal for the fourth consecutive game. This is the longest goal streak of her career and it’s the third time in her career with at least a point in four consecutive games
- Fischer is now 10th in program history with 25 goals in her career
- Sears notched her second two-goal game of season and the fourth of her career
- Sears now leads the team with eight goals this season. The eight goals are one more than her career-high for a season
- Dudukovich netted the 18th hat trick in program history. This was the first hat trick of her career and the first since Sears had one last season against Akron on Aug. 22, 2021. Dudukovich now has 13 goals in her career
- Sophomore Sydney Jones had two assists in the match, which is a career-high. She is now tied for the team-high with four on the season
- Freshman keeper Molly Pritchard made her first collegiate start and combined with Haley Roberts for her eighth shutout of the season
- The seven goals are the most in a Big Ten game since a 7-0 win over Illinois on Sept. 14, 2017
- The Buckeyes are now unbeaten in their last six matches with four wins and a pair of draws
- This was the eighth shutout of the year which is the most since the team has nine in the 2018 season
