RICHMOND, Va. – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (8-0) dominated Virginia (4-3) in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-18) on Saturday to wrap up the road trip. This is the Buckeyes’ sixth sweep of the season.
How it Happened
Virginia captured the first two points of the match before four-straight Ohio State points gave the Buckeyes a lead it would not relinquish. After holding a 6-5 lead, OSU put together a 7-2 run to force a UVA timeout following a solo block from Arica Davis. The Buckeyes doubled up at 16-8 but the Cavaliers responded with four of the next five points to cut the lead to 17-12. The Cavaliers would get no closer as OSU took the first set on a UVA service error, 25-16.
After being tied at three and four, the Buckeyes scored three-consecutive points and six of the next seven to lead 10-5 and force a Cavaliers timeout. OSU scored the next four points out of the timeout, capped by a block from Mac Podraza and Rylee Rader, to prompt another Cavaliers timeout at 14-5. UVA would get no closer than five (21-16) as the Buckeyes won set two on a UVA service error, 25-17.
Ohio State scored the first five points, but Virginia cut the OSU lead to as little as two points at 6-4 and 13-11. The Buckeyes responded with back-to-back points to force a Cavaliers timeout with a 15-11 lead. Virginia trimmed the Ohio State lead to 15-14 before the Buckeyes scored the next four points. OSU also scored the final four points of the set to claim the match victory on an Emily Londot kill.
