Ohio State graduate Kyle Young has been named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for the 2020-21 academic year.
Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student’s academic career.
Young appeared in 27 of the 31 games this past season and made 26 starts. He averaged 8.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and was third on the team with 15 blocks. The Canton, Ohio native has played in 108 games over the past four seasons and has career totals of 650 career points and 469 rebounds.
Off the court, Young is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and earns his first Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award. He graduated in just over three years with a bachelor’s degree in sport industry and is currently working on his master’s degree in sport management. Young has elected to use the NCAA waiver which granted student-athletes an extra year of eligibility due to COVID 19 shutdown in 2020.
