COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's track and field teams returned to racing and competitive action this week at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., hosted by Indiana University. Each team put forth some formidable performances in the five-team event that included the Buckeyes, the host Hoosiers and teams from Michigan State, Purdue and Wisconsin.
Some highlights for the Ohio State women:
• One week after Allie Guagenti placed 5th in this state of Indiana to lead Ohio State at the Big Ten cross country championships, she returns to the state and wins the mile run in 4:51.53. Addie Engel and Daniella Santos were 3rd and 4th, respectively, in 4:56.90 and 4:59.32.
• Buckeyes went 1-2-3 in the 60 hurdles with Emma Nwofor, running unattached until the outdoor season, winning for the second time this winter in 8.30. Alexus Pyles (8.39), also running unattached, and freshman Marcia Sey (8.62) were second and third in this Scarlet sweep!
• A much-deserving shout out to sophomore Andrea Kuhn, who posted a personal season's best in the 3,000 in 9:42.36 to finish second … and nearly 30 seconds in front of the third-place finisher.
• Amaya Ugarte leaped into the win column, her first as a collegian after a standout prep career at Windermere H.S. in Florida, by winning the high jump with a leap of 1.77m/5-9¾ … her collegiate best!
• Another freshman jumper, pole vaulter Abbey Kuhn, from Aurora, Ill., and West Aurora H.S., cleared a collegiate best for her of 11-4¼ to take seventh in the event.
• Anavia Battle ran a 7.35 – equaling her best time this season – in the 60 but was upset by Wisconsin's Kiley Robbins, who ran 7.33 to hand Battle her first loss in any race this season.
• Adelaide Aquilla was third in the shot with a toss of 16.93m/55-6½.
And on the men's side …
• Tyler Johnson raced to his third win of the young season today, winning the 200 meters in team season's-best time of 21.07. He also has two wins this indoor season in the 400.
• The 4×400-meter relay team of Donnie James, Frank Hayes, Praise Olatoke and Tyler Johnson cruised to victory by more than a second-and-a-half, in 3:12.37.
• Nick Miller ran a team season's-best 4:10.67 in the mile to take fourth out of 14 competitors in the race. Ivan Slyepkan was fifth in 4:13.28.
• Robert Oswald went a season's best for him 16-9½ to place third in the pole vault.
• Myles Marshall was fourth in the 60 hurdles in 8.27.
• Four Buckeyes made the finals in the 60-meter dash in a 14-runner field with Eric Harrison the top Buckeye finisher with a fifth-place effort in 6.80.
• Evan Matthews took third in the 400-meter dash in 47.95 with Tyrese Fajardo and Donnie James tying for fifth in 48.70.
