
Buckeyes End B1G Play with Loss to No. 5 Badgers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team closed Big Ten regular season play with a loss to No. 5 Wisconsin, 7-0, Saturday in LaBahn Arena in Madison, Wis. The Badgers, who won the series opener 2-1 in overtime Friday, led 1-0 after the first period and extended the advantage to 4-0 through the second, adding three goals in the third for the final.
Ohio State will end the regular season with two games vs. Arizona State. The teams will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday in Value City Arena, with the matchups streamed through BTN Plus and on Ohio State Radio.
Ohio State at Wisconsin
In the First … Wisconsin's Cole Caufield opened the scoring at 11:48, which stood as the only goal of the first. The Badgers went on a major power play with 4:38 left in the period but were unable to extend their lead. Tommy Nappier had 12 saves on 13 UW shots in the period; Ohio State was limited to three shots on net.
In the Second … The Buckeyes killed the remainder of the major power play but Wisconsin's Caufield scored on a 2-on-1 shortly after for a 2-0 lead. The Badgers added two late goals in the stanza – at 15:12 from Dylan Holloway and at 19:28 from Ty Emberson – for a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes. Shots were 14-12 in favor of Wisconsin in the period.
In the Third … Caufield completed his hat trick 1:59 into the third and Ty Pelton-Byce scored twice in the period, with an even strength score at 12:18 and power play tally at 15:32. Wisconsin outshot the Buckeyes in the period, 16-6.
Shots … The Buckeyes were outshot, 43-21, in the game. Nappier had 29 saves on 35 shots in 52:18 and Ryan Snowden played the final 7:42, allowing one goal on eight shots.
Special Teams … Ohio State was unable to score on two power play chances and Wisconsin was 1-for-3.
