
Ohio State Wins Tri-Meet with Season-High 196.400

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The No. 22 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team (6-3, 5-2 Big Ten) won its third meet in a row with a season-best 196.400 on Sunday in a tri-meet with Maryland and Penn State. The Terrapins came in second with a score of 196.275 and the Nittany Lions scored a 195.925 to finish third.
Ella Hodges earned the title of beam queen after her stunning routine received a score of 9.950. It was a career mark for the sophomore and the highest score by a Buckeye on any apparatus this season. She is only the third Big Ten gymnast to score a 9.950 on beam this year.
As a team, Ohio State set season highs on vault (49.175) and beam (49.225). Jenna Swartzentruber garnered a share of the bars title with a score of 9.900 while Hodges claimed the top spot on beam.
“This was an important road meet for us and a very exciting matchup with great Big Ten opponents,” said head coach Meredith Paulicivic. “It was a nail-biter to the very end and this team never stopped fighting. It was so much fun to come out of this meet with a big win.”
The day began on bars, where Swartzentruber and Alissa Bonsall (PSU) shared first place with a pair of 9.900s. Alexis Hankins joined her on the podium after tying for third thanks to a season-best 9.875.
Ohio State set a season mark and won beam behind a score of 49.225. Hodges’ performance secured the event crown while Zoe Schweitzer and Hankins both scored 9.850s to place third. It was a personal best for Schweitzer.
Brooke Chesney and Hodges were the top finishers on floor for the Buckeyes with scores of 9.825, which was good enough for fifth. It was a career best for Chesney. Ohio State had to rally as it fell to second behind Maryland following the third rotation, 147.250-147.225.
The team rebounded on vault, led by Nicole Riccardi’s career-high 9.875, which captured second place. Morgan Lowe set a season best with a score of 9.850 and tied for third. Claire Gagliardi (9.825) and Colby Miller (9.775) both had personal bests while Swartzentruber improved on her season high with a 9.800.
Ohio State closes its three-meet road swing in College Park, Md. at the Big Five Meet on Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
