Quoting Head Coach Melissa Schaub
"We came out and played strong in doubles. We had some new teams, but everyone competed well and played hard. This is a long conference season this year and to start with a win is always good."
In Doubles
- The tandem of Boulais and freshman Atway posted a 6-2 win on court three against Rut Galindo and Seira Shimizu. The victory was Atway's first collegiate dual match doubles victory.
- On court two, Hofbauer and Marzal prevailed over Zala Dovnik and Nathalia Gasparin, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point.
- The match on court one between Cantos Siemers and Allen was suspended with Purdue's Ena Babic and Csilla Fodor ahead 5-4.
In Singles
- On court five against Galindo, Marzal won the first set 6-4 and then dropped just one game in the second for a 2-0 Buckeye lead.
- Hofbauer followed with a straight-set win of her own, 6-2, 6-3, over Shimizu, on court three.
- The Boilermakers got on the board when Fodor defeated Boulais, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 2.
- Buckeye freshman Kashyap sealed the win, as she defeated Naz Ozturk, 6-2, 6-1. The victory was Kashyap's first dual match singles win in the Scarlet and Gray.
- On court four, Allen topped Dovnik in straight sets for a 5-1 Ohio State advantage. The Buckeye won the first, 6-4, and took the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5).
- Court one was the last to finish, going the distance in a third set tiebreaker. Cantos Siemers, ranked 78th, won the first set, 6-2, against Babic, but the Boilermaker rallied for a 6-4 second-set win. In the third, Cantos Siemers held on the no-ad point for 5-4 and 6-5, with Babic responding with a hold of her own each time to force the tiebreaker. Cantos Siemers then took control, not dropping a point in the tiebreaker to clinch the win. The sophomore has a team-best seven overall wins this season.
- Hofbauer, Marzal and Cantos Siemers all have four dual match victories this season.
