Buckeyes Fall in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 2 Ohio State (10-2, 8-1) fell 42-27 at No. 5 Michigan (11-1, 8-1) Saturday in a clash of Top 5 teams in Ann Arbor.
Two fourth-quarter touchdowns by freshman TreVeyon Henderson kept the Buckeyes within striking distance but the Wolverines answered each of Ohio State’s late scores with touchdowns to earn the victory.
The Buckeyes closed to within eight points (28-20) on a Henderson 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter to culminate a 17-play, 82-yard drive but the Wolverines countered with a 66-yard, nine-play scoring jaunt to build the Wolverine lead to 35-20.
Henderson finished the day with 74 yards rushing on 17 carries and a touchdown. He added 54 yards on five catches and the fourth quarter TD.
QB C.J. Stroud went 34-49 for 394 yards and a pair of TDs. All three Buckeye lead wide receivers turned in big days as well with Jaxon Smith-Njigba leading the way with 11 catches for 127 yards, while Garrett Wilson pulled in 10 grabs for 119 and TD. Chris Olave added 88 yards on seven receptions.
Game Highlights
After Ohio State won the toss and deferred, the Wolverines took the game’s first possession 75 yards on 10 plays to score on a 14-yard reverse by A.J. Henning with 10:12 on the first-quarter clock.
The Buckeyes were pinned inside their 5-yard line on their first opportunity of the game and were forced to punt. Henning returned the kick to the OSU 39.
The Ohio State defense responded with an interception by Bryson Shaw on a pass over the middle near the goal line. Shaw returned the pick to the OSU 22.
Stroud settled in and drove the Buckeyes to the UM 14 before Noah Ruggles connected on a 31-yard field goal to make it 7-3 Michigan with 3:36 left in the quarter. The drive covered 64 yards, mainly on the shoulders of running backs Henderson and Miyan Williams.
The quarter ended with Michigan in possession on the OSU 45.
Ruggles converts for first Ohio State points
Stroud got the pass game going connecting on three tosses in four plays for the go-ahead score, a 25-yard touchdown catch by Garrett Wilson after a 23-yard grab by Smith-Njigba.
The drive covered 56 yards and made the score 10-7 Buckeyes at 9:12 before the half.
Michigan began its next possession on its 18 and drove 82 yards on 13 plays to regain the lead 14-10 on a 1-yard run by Hassan Haskins. The big play in the drive was a 37-yard Cade McNamara pass to Cornelius Johnson to the Ohio State 2.
Starting on their 25, the Buckeyes countered with a series of short passes and a drive that resulted in a 30-yard field goal by Ruggles to make it 14-13 Wolverines at the break.
Stroud finished the half completed 14 of 21 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown. Henderson rushed for 45 yards on eight carries. Smith-Njigba had six catches for 68 yards while Wilson had three grabs for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Michigan, behind a 55-yard run by Blake Corum, drove 81 yards on three plays to build its lead to 21-13 after a 13-yard Haskins run over the right side hit pay dirt.
After a touchback, the Buckeyes drove to their 40 before a punt gave Michigan the ball at their 22. Five plays later, the Wolverines scored on a 1-yard touchdown run by Haskins to make it 28-13 with 5:49 left in the third.
