
Ohio State Skates to 6-3 Win Over Minnesota State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Liz Schepers recorded her 100th career point as the No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team picked up a 6-3 win over Minnesota State Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes (11-2-0, 11-2-0 WCHA) picked up their seventh straight home win of the year against the Mavericks (5-8-0, 1-8-0 WCHA).
How it Happened
Despite Minnesota State striking first, the Buckeyes refused to go without a goal in the first period. Ohio State scored twice in the final two minutes of the period to take a one-goal lead headed into the first intermission. Clair DeGeorge put the team on the board with 2:15 to play and Paetyn Levis added another with 35 seconds left in the period.
The Buckeyes held the Mavericks scoreless in the second period and picked up two of their own. Levis scored her second consecutive goal with under seven minutes to play to put Ohio State up 3-2 on Minnesota State. Ohio State found itself on the power play with eight seconds to play in the period and Sophie Jaques recorded the team’s first power play goal of the game with just 0.1 seconds on the clock.
Minnesota State picked up another two goals in the third period, but the Buckeyes responded with two of their own to secure the 6-3 win. Lauren Bernard added her second goal of the season at 5:02 into the period. Liz Schepers finished off the scoring in spectacular fashion, scoring her 100th career point with the game’s final goal at 16:44.
Between the pipes for Ohio State, Andrea Braendli picked up her sixth win of the year. She recorded 11 saves on 14 shots faced.
Game Notes
- Recording two assists and one goal on the night, Schepers became the 13th player in program history to record 100 career points. She has scored 47 goals and dished 53 assists in 145 career games played.
- Jenna Buglioni kept her point streak alive with an assist in game one against Minnesota State. The sophomore has recorded at least a point in each of the Buckeyes’ 13 games this season. She is tied for fifth among all-time longest point streaks by a Buckeye.
- DeGeorge and Levis recorded four points on the night for Ohio State. The point total is a career high for both players. Levis tied her career single game high mark of two goals and two assists while DeGeorge tied her career single game best with three assists.
- DeGeorge’s four-point effort against the Mavericks brings her three points shy of 100 for her career (97).
- With two points on Friday night, Sophie Jaques ties Lauren Boyle (2015-19) for 10th in defenseman career points with 70.
- Jaques’ power play goal against Minnesota State is her sixth of the year, good for the most power play goals by a player this season.
- Gabby Rosenthal led the team with 15 faceoff wins against the Mavericks. Ohio State bested Minnesota 31-24 on the faceoff.
