COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey earned a 5-2 victory over St. Cloud State on Friday evening at the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes (7-2-0, 7-2-0 WCHA) remain undefeated on home ice this season with the game one win against the Huskies (2-4-1, 0-4-1 WCHA).
How it Happened
Ramsey Parent started the Buckeyes’ first period scoring spree at 2:39. She tipped in a shot from Riley Brengman to put the Buckeyes on the board early. Paetyn Levis added her first goal of the night at 14:48 as she connected with Clair DeGeorge in a two-on-one situation, with Jamie Grinder earning the second assist. Hadley Hartmetz recorded her first Buckeye goal at 16:19 to give the team a three-goal advantage after the first period.
The Huskies fired back in the second period, as Emma Gentry and Klara Hymlarova scored goals at 3:22 and 4:51, respectively. Paetyn Levis put an end to the St. Cloud State scoring, and recorded her second goal of the night, at 7:02 to play in the second period.
Sophie Jaques netted the team’s final goal of the game, and the only goal of the third period, at 2:42 in the final frame. Bizal and Rosenthal picked up assists on the score.
Game Notes
- The game marked the third time this season that the Buckeyes have scored at least three goals in a single period.
- Scoring the third goal of the game, junior Hadley Hartmetz netted her first career goal in the scarlet and gray sweater. The goal is her fourth of her career.
- Also adding her first point as a Buckeye was freshman Jamie Grinder. The Richmond, B.C. native added an assist on the second goal of the evening.
- Paetyn Levis’ two-goal game is a career-best performance. The senior captain tied her single-game high with two points on the two goals against the Huskies
- Sophie Jaques’ power play goal Buckeyes is her fourth goal on the year and the Buckeyes’ sixth power play goal of the season.
- Jenna Buglioni continues to lead Ohio State in points this season as she added an assist in game one against the Huskies. The sophomore has now recorded 14 points on the year and nine assists for the Buckeyes.
- Amanda Thiele made 11 saves for the Buckeyes, playing 40 minutes between the pipes.
- Ohio State remains perfect on the penalty kill this season after keeping the Huskies scoreless in their four power play situations on the night. The Buckeyes are now 26-26 on the penalty kill this year.
- With one assist on the night, Riley Brengman picked up her first point of the year for Ohio State. She has now recorded 12 points for her career on two goals and 10 assists.
